SOUND WORK 7.24 MIN, TEXT,
PHOTOGRAPHS, 2011

Antiphon is a musical term emanating from
the Greek (anti "opposite" and phonos "sound").
The antiphon, used in Christian music and ritual,
is sung alternately by two cantors, or by two choirs.
It could also be a short sentence sung by the
congregation as a response to the cantor or choir.
To sing antiphonally is to alternate, to call and to
respond.

The sound work is based on field recordings
collected at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in
Jerusalem, 2010. It is composed from these recordings
as well as added vocals wich are layered and integrated -
a form of reaction to, and extension of the sounds of
the church. In a similar way both text and photographs,
are reactions and extentions.
Thus, the work as a whole
can be seen as a response to the call of the collected
material, and to the experience of the church
and
the city.
